This paper presents an approach to design a pressure tracking controller for a pneumatic cylinder system in which the connection port comprises a non-negligible restriction. The pressure chamber of this system is difficult to control because a double restriction is formed by the servovalve and the connection port. The model of this system can be approximated using singular perturbation approach. The tracking control problem is then formulated as a stabilization of a nonlinear timevarying system. The control law is divided into three stages: the first stage eliminates almost all nonlinear part of the system, the second stage compensates the remaining nonlinear part and the last one stabilizes the tracking error. The gains of the stabilization control law are found by using Linear Matrix Inequality method.
